All students are different and we cannot possibly reach every student in the classroom with just one teaching method. Every student needs a teacher that will tailor their lesson planning/ instruction to meet their needs as learners. I want to be the teacher to reach every learner and what they need as individuals. There are so many learning styles and each learning style is unique in its way and different on so many levels. Every student is different and it is important we understand our students on personal levels. Classroom differentiation for effective educators involves providing each student with the opportunity to succeed in his or her way. For example, having one on one instruction with a student, participating in small groups, students having a choice, and different assignment choices for each student that will ultimately reach the same ending goal.
○ Giving the students choices in the classroom that will ultimately all come to the same ending outcome or to reach their target.
○ Give students tasks that they can handle. Each student is different and I want to make sure to recognize their strengths and give them tasks they can handle and also challenge them in a good way to show off their skills.
○ Make sure to encourage students if they are struggling and to base my class on everyone who makes mistakes, but it is how we learn from them that matters. Not every student will understand what is being learned because of the different learning styles and strengths/ weaknesses. Students learn differently and I will find out how each student thrives and encourage them to always keep trying, success sometimes doesn't happen right away. I will also model an environment that is positive and trusting, so students will trust the learning process and not get so frustrated.
In my classroom I want to celebrate everyone and how each student learns in their own unique way. I will love to have 10-20 minutes a day where students will have free choice of skills they need to improve on. Such as reading, writing, math, and social studies. My idea for this is to have different activities, supplies, books, and tools that the students will pick from and work independently/ quietly on for 10-20 minutes to help them to better their skills. This will help them get into the routine of working on themselves. Also, at this time they can meet with me to discuss any concerns they might have or if they want to just spend time working with me if they don't understand and need assistance.
