I have included the cover page of a few textbooks that are my favorite I've been reading and that have helped further my knowledge about classroom management, how students need to be taught, and how to disrupt poverty in the classroom. These books have helped guide me in being a better educator during my pre-service field placement and training and these books will continue to guide me through my next steps in landing my professional career as an elementary school teacher.
Conscious Discipline, such. a great book I enjoyed reading during my time at Tarleton. Conscious discipline is so important to use in the classroom and offers so many solutions for social-emotional learning, discipline, and self-regulation for students. Each chapter in this book is so special and gives great advice and ways you can implement each chapter into your classroom. The main goal of conscious discipline is to help schools/ teachers reach and teach every individual child. Once conscious discipline is in use in the classroom, these essential skills will last a lifetime and positively impact the students.
This book was so fascinating to me and taught me how students need to be taught. Creating an environment of brain-based learning helps students thrive in the classroom setting. Learning/ teaching is much more than teaching students academically, it's all about reaching the students on personal, emotional, and social levels. In order to reach the students in our classroom we have to build a foundation first. That first step is building a personal relationship with each and every student, so they feel loved and safe in the classroom.
This book, wow. Such an amazing read that every educator should read or have in their classroom. This book had some very emotional stories that would hit you right where your heart was. Poverty is a serious thing and lots of students and their families struggle from it. My most important takeaway from this book is that poverty comes in many forms and can affect the students' in our classrooms in so many different ways. We need to not judge our students/ and their families, but get to know them and offer our help/ support if they need it. Also, I want to be that adult the student can come to and feel safe to communicate with.
