Having a classroom floor plan/ layout helps me to get an idea of how I would want my future room to look. The way you layout your classroom is so important because it benefits students and their learning process. The reason why I chose to draw mine out the way I did was that I could visualize students benefiting from the creative layout. My future classroom is based on what I have seen and enjoyed from my field experience and being a substitute teacher. I enjoy going and seeing all the different classrooms and how each room shows off that teacher’s personality and how she/ he wants their students to feel when they walk inside the classroom. I want to teach kindergarten, first grade, or second, so I based my room off of what would work best and benefit the younger students.
First off I wanted my smart board to be in the front of the classroom and then the carpet right in front of the board. I chose a cute and fun carpet with different colors and shapes. By having a colorful fun carpet with shapes, I would assign them a shape to sit on and then switch it up, so they can have a chance to sit everywhere. I wanted the teacher’s workspace to be a desk and then the teacher’s table to be right next to it, so that way if students had questions or needed help I could have- on one session or even multiple students getting help all at one time. I want this space to be a safe space where students feel comfortable asking for help from their teacher. Nextasking I drew the tables , where multiple students are sitting in groups. This is a great around for students to make friends and start to learn opportunity skills. The students will get many social where they can socialize, work together in teams, and learn from each other.
In the corner, I wanted to have a fun personal classroom library, so when students had reading time they could pick a book, stay there, and pick a spot where they will feel comfortable such as a bean bag or even sit on the couches. I also made sure to include flexible seating so that way if they got tired of sitting at their tables/chairs they could grab a bean bag, rotating stool, or even a rocking chair. I know no one wants to sit for long opportunities and how it can be uncomfortable, so I wanted to make sure to provide plenty of ways the students can be comfortable and learn to the best of their ability. I also decided to spread out the different learning areas because I didn’t want them too close to each otherperiods. After all, then that could cause students to be distracted and not perform as well. One thing I did add was the technology cart in the back of the classroom by the door. From my experience and observations pretty much every school is using iPads/ computers to assist students in the educational process. I had to think about how I would want my future classroom to look. I think my students will enjoy the setup and one thing I love about the classroom is how you can also change it accordingly.
